The Guo Pei Winter 2018 Haute Couture Collection is not rooted in real clothes for real women. It’s all about fantastical creations, inspired for this collection by Gothic architecture.
Slightly surreal, right? But interesting too and, I’m sure the stuff that set designers, illustrators and many other creatively inclined people look at and are inspired by … though some will be shaking their heads, saying, ‘Just, no.’
Not in any way meant for the mass consumer, this is fashion to be stared looked at on the red carpet or similar such occasion, as, memorably, on Rhianna at the Met Ball a few years ago.
I’m sure I’m not alone in remembering the Guo Pei dress with the yellow train that Rhianna wore which, she revealed on Graham Norton recently, required six people to arrange and carry behind her. She had to stand in the cab to get to The Met and back out of the cab, step by tortuous step, turning to climb more steps up before, once inside, shrugging the whole thing off her shoulders.
So, definitely not daywear. More like every non-fashionista’s expectation of fashion nonsense. But, hey, who cares what they think?
Clearly, Guo Pei’s 2018 Fall/Winter Collection doesn’t look too practical either – no change there – however, it is a rather fabulous cerebral ‘architecture as fashion’ moment which probably will be seen in some form or other along a red carpet soon.
Fun. And I do like some fun with my Haute.
Happy weekend smiles 💋

This was my favourite Haute Couture collection ❤️
For me, it was the Valentino 🖤 Thanks for commenting 😊
Hi, Nice to meet you!!!!! My favorite was Giambattista Valli ❤
Hi Laura, thanks for dropping by and commenting. It’s a lot of fun spending imaginary £££ on some beauteous Haute, isn’t it? My money would be all in Valentino, despite a coffee shop teenagers view of Pierpaulo’s fabulousness as ‘a bit boring …’ 😁
Agree!!!!!! BTW love your blog 🙂
Thank you 😊
Love this collection!
