A Fork, a Spoon and a Moon

This is such a beautiful image: A Fork, a Spoon and a Moon, photographed by Andrew Caldwell, showing a Royal Spoonbill sitting on a branch basking in the glow of the nearly full moon in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand (as described by The Guardian).

As noted in The Guardian, there will be a free exhibition of the winning images at the Royal Observatory Greenwich’s Astronomy Centre from 17 September this year (2016).

I’m no science geek but I do love a beautiful photo so this sounds like a must-see, no?

I wonder how wheelchair accessible Greenwich’s Astronomy Centre is …

Art at Chateau la Coste

How stunning is this beautiful sculpture by Louise Bourgeois which may be seen at Chateau la Coste, near the Luberon mountains in France?

Blue skies, hot sun, long summer days: outdoor sculpture. Match made in heaven.

Take a look at Chateau la Coste’s entire website – such a stunning place and the Tadao Ande Art Centre … sigh, I want to go. Sadly, I shall have to wait until D has more free time but one day …

Guo Pei Haute Couture Fall 2016

Guo Pei Haute Couture Fall 2016

I haven’t spent a lot of time illustrating whilst I’ve been unwell but I do really enjoy recreating catwalk looks on my iPad when I am able. It’s both soothing and engaging and has helped me while away some very painful hours.

So, this is my catch up post of illustrations that I think turned out quite well considering the constraints of my toolbox and my physical limitations. I did get a little over-enthusiastic about the Naeem Khan collection (see below) because I just loved the effect of the big hair and frocks.

I shall be adding all of these to my elle illustrates page soon as it’s also fun for me to see how my efforts are developing as I go. Am I imagining that I have a visible – work in progress – style?

i hope you like them too. All polite feedback welcome. Enjoy.

Valentino

Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2014

Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2014

I’ve been very sad to hear that the design duo at Valentino have split: Maria Grazia Chiuri resigned her position following the Haute Couture show earlier this week amidst rumours that she will be appointed, imminently, as numero uno at a major competitor with a – now – longstanding vacancy.

In the past seven/eight years, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino have produced some of the most beautiful designer wear that I’ve ever seen and I do hope that both of them will continue, separately, to be as creatively inspirational as they’ve been together. If so, whopee, we will have two fabulous collections to admire rather than just the one.

Meantime, a nostalgic look back at some of my Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli at Valentino favourites, including my most loved – the musical notes dress, above.

Good times: sigh.

Happy weekend.

Haute Couture Fall 2016

I’ve been looking at the Haute Couture Shows, Fall 2016, this week, mostly using the, fairly new, Vogue Runway app which I like a lot.

The couture shows aren’t, for me, about the new and exciting but more about admiring the extraordinarily beautiful workmanship in design, fabric and production that the major fashion houses are, currently, still willing to invest in.

Most people, in their right mind, wouldn’t dream of spending the enormous £££ it costs to wear these exquisite works of art but ‘art’ is indeed what couture is and long may it continue to be sought after, made and displayed to those of us who love the beauty to be seen in it.

You’ll find here a few of my favourite looks from the Fall 2016 shows. Enjoy.

Doxie the Dacshund Matches

Daschund Matches by the Archivist Gallery

Daschund Matches by the Archivist Gallery

Last week, I was posting bunnies; this week, it’s dogs. Kitsch rules for the moment, it seems and I’m loving it.

Doxie the Daschund Dog may be seen in all her glorious cuteness at the Archivist Gallery,  fronting up on a couple of matchboxes – regular (above) and longer length (below). A total bargain of smiles at £6 and £9 respectively.

i know we don’t smoke anymore but we’ve all got candles, right, and tea lights for late summer evenings. Useful and, did I mention, cute?

Wishing you a weekend of well-lit nights,

Elle from Plus Black and Stiletto Wheels
