The ubiquitous GamFratesi Beetle Dining Chair by Gubi has been liberally splashed across everything interiors for at least a couple of years so, hardly surprising that this, image above right, caught my eye in 2015.
I snapped it from who-knows-where, filed it and, behold, it’s here today because I still love it and I was reminded of it a few weeks ago whilst lunching at – my current favourite restaurant – Elystan Street.
Over our, long, lunch, one of my companions mentioned how comfortable her chair was. I studied it, and, yes, I do believe it was a Beetle, in a somewhat more tasteful restrained fabric than the one you see here so I promised her the visuals of something similar but a little more on the wild side.
And, this is it.
On reflection, I’m not sure it is a Beetle – it’s a little more tub-like, I think. However, I love the comfy seat cushion and, let’s be honest, this one’s all about the fabric really, isn’t it?
I totally love the fabric. Which is Maquillage by Dominique Kieffer for Rubelli, see more colour options below.
The bad news: c.£176 per metre. Let’s say no more on that.
The good news: it’s beautiful, tactile and you don’t need much to cover a dining chair or two, right?
I showed this to D who said only: A bit out there. Pink?
I’m probably more of a black/grey/white person, though I may be persuaded by greens and purples. You?

Lovely work! Such cheerful colours and great combinations too.
Have a wonderful weekend,
