Am I alone in thinking that this year’s New York Fashion Week was a bit, umm, boring?
Accepting that NYFW is usually more about the business end of selling stuff than the ethereal land of fashion fantasy that might be seen elsewhere, even so, this year’s collections … yawn!
Is this just a bad year, I wonder, or a result of industry jitters for the future of the shows given the increasing numbers of designers either scaling back for cost reasons or opting out and doing their own – online – thing?
It’s probably too soon to make a call on that question or to think about how the future of fashion shows might continue to evolve but for the moment, at NYFW, I’ve struggled to find ‘quite likes’ let alone ‘wows’ or ‘fabulous’ in the collections that were shown.
I did persevere right through to the end of the week – a triumph increasingly of hope rather than expectation but my final picks are more about things I’d like to wear than any significant style or fashion revelation – with the one exception being the stunning black model in the orange Christian Siriano, above, which is definite ‘wow’ of colour and beauty. Just. Stunning.
So, marking NYFW week as first off my viewing schedule, the shows move onto London today and I’m hoping for more fun and laughs in my home town …
