I went to see a Montreal-based dance company at the Sadler’s Wells last night: Marie Chouinard.
My principle interest was to see the work entitled Henri Michaux: Mouvements, based on a book of 64 poems, written and illustrated in Indian-black ink by the eponymous poet and artist.
The performance didn’t disappoint. It was a brilliant confluence of book, dance, spoken word and movement. The pages from the book were seen as background brought to life through wonderfully choreographed physical movement, music and voice. Truly inspiring.
Naturally, I immediately looked for the book which is currently out of print. I found some copies on Abe Books – not inexpensive but what a lovely gift to give to someone special.
