I’m just reading about a new documentary film, releasing in the UK on 22 September 2017, Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes For Lizards.
Accompanying the blurb on the film are images of some of Manolo Blahnik’s illustrations and I felt impelled to blog immediately to show just how fabulous they are – I’ve picked up a random selection from an internet search to include here but, as you’d expect given my interest in fashion illustration, I do have books including many of his published illustrations,
I probably will seek out the film on download as I’d be interested to hear him talking about his craft though I suspect it will be full of the usual quota of ‘genius’ and ‘fabulous, darlings’ that the fashionista’s tend to throw about when asked to comment on anyone working in their field rather than any kind of objective perspective about how Blahnik has managed to persuade a generation of women to teeter about on stupidly beautiful shoes with teeny-tiny points connecting their skyscraper high heels to earth without breaking their necks.
But, hey, objectivity’s overrated and what’s not to love about ‘genius’ illustrations … not forgetting the shoes, of course.
🖤💋
