Viktor and Rolf collections are usually unique and interesting, the Haute Couture collection, Fall 2017, being no exception.
Who wouldn’t smile as a diversely cosmopolitan collection of Couture-dressed ‘dolls’ strolled down the runway, followed by a similarly cosmopolitan number of real-life models wearing the same outfits?
Not sure anyone would’ve quite ‘got it’ without the explanation though – taken from the Vogue Runway review:
“We thought reality is so weird at the moment, why not show the surreal side of reality,” said Rolf Snoeren, with Viktor Horsting suggesting that “these [dolls] are fighting for a better world” via the patchwork symbolizing unity. As a call to action, couture dolls certainly aren’t the most obvious transmission medium. Unless, of course, they start canvasing in the streets, which seems like a wonderfully absurd thought.
Surreal, indeed, and a lot of fun which isn’t a bad way to get your message across, is it? Who says fashion is all fluff?
Smiles 💋
