Inspirational Women: Zaha Hadid

Zaha Hadid

I was reading an article in the  Intelligent Life series on Inspiring Women this weekend which turned my mind to women who have Inspirational Style.  For me, inspirational style is about that which expresses the internal aspects of personality – humour, intelligence, awareness, reference – externally and then, I guess, it becomes about appreciating a personal aesthetic.  Clearly, this means I am rarely a fan of top to toe designer dressing as that, for me, represents an exchange of money for someone else’s idea of style.

Springing straight to my mind as a uniquely stylish Inspirational women is world renowned architect, Zaha Hadid.  Utterly unconventional in looks and shape, now at 62 years old, she has developed a style aesthetic that makes a fabulous visual and intellectual statement for her.  If you are not aware of her, do read this brief bio on her in The New York Times and google her.

Interesting and Inspiring.  Umm, I like this idea, maybe I will develop this theme with more Inspirational Women profiles.  Tell me who inspires you … ?

Yes, I suspect she has a lot made for her but I do recognise some Miyake in these photos and have read her referencing Yohji, Comme des Garcons and, in general, Japanese and Belgian designers for their architectural aesthetic. I vaguely think she may have mentioned Isabel Toledo in an interview I heard – a few pieces by her on the CoutureLab site: http://www.couturelab.com/browse/c375.html

She has certainly learned what works for her … 😀

You inspire me. So do many of the normal, everyday ladies whose blogs I frequent. So does Chanel and Elie Saab. Inspiration is the seed of the idea; style is it’s manifestation.
