Marc Jacobs NYFW RTW Fall 2018

Marc Jacobs NYFW RTW Fall 2018

Marc Jacobs closed out NYFW last night in dramatic style with swagger and sway.

Starting with huge coats, full of draping width, sliding into skintight jersey then neon-bright satins, the entire collection screamed ‘Thierry Mugler 1980’s’ to me. Or even Galliano and McQueen from the same time period.

Not so much in the oversizing but more in the colour palette, the shaping, the sheer excess and the beautiful fabrics.

There, however, my historical referencing ends as Jacobs totally goes his own way on the accessorising, styling and ‘more, more, more’ of his show.

The huge shoulders, floral-shaped satin sashes and bows, hats, shoes, gloves … it was a Fashion Week show. Totally loved the matching of hair colour and outfit for the evening wear, see examples above and below.

Not favouring my current personal style aesthetic but a lot of (almost nostalgic) fun to watch – and draw if the illustrators frenzy on Insta is an indicator.

Who doesn’t love a showman? I certainly do.
